TAMPA, Fla. ? For the 25th Anniversary season, the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts has scheduled an astonishing line-up of touring Broadway blockbusters, an amazing opera series, a dramatic and thought-provoking play series and a remarkable collection of dance, comedy, music and educational events. Tickets for most 2012-2013 events will go on sale to the public on Sept. 12 at the Straz Center Ticket Office and online at www.strazcenter.org. See attached schedule for a full chronological listing of events.

?Once again, our season offers our community a stunning array of high-quality, artistic programming,? said Judith Lisi, president of the Straz Center. ?From grand opera to family-friendly fare and cutting edge dance, world music and Broadway blockbusters, the Straz Center continues to be the leading presenter of performing arts and entertainment in the Tampa Bay area. And this, our 25th Anniversary season, will be very special, full of events, surprises and memories.?

Among the season?s offerings are a number of shows and artists that have been deemed 25th Anniversary Fan Favorites, brought back by popular demand. Over the last 25 years, these performers and performances have made a special impact on our patrons and are denoted by a ?.

MUSIC

The Straz Center?s 2012-2013 season includes a diverse lineup of music performances including singer/songwriter and master whistler Andrew Bird (Oct. 9, 2012), New Directions Veterans Choir (Jan. 13, 2013) Israeli vocalist Dudu Fisher (Jan. 15, 2013), violin virtuoso Hilary Hahn (Feb. 27, 2013), fiery, passionate and percussive Flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook? (Feb. 28, 2013), the Creole Choir of Cuba (March 3, 2013), Led Zeppelin tribute band Get the Led Out (March 16, 2013) and James Gavin?s Stormy Weather: the Lena Horne Project starring Mary Wilson (May 2, 2013).

Additionally, the season will feature return performances by Mannheim Steamroller? (Nov. 17, 2012), Dark Star Orchestra (Feb. 21, 2013), The Four Bitchin? Babes: Mid Life Vices ? A Guilt Free Musical Review? (April 4, 2013), tabla genius Zakir Hussain? with santoor master Shivkumar Sharma (April 5, 2013) and Experience the Beatles with RAIN? (April 27, 2013).

The season?s music lineup will also include Quiet Callings: An Evening of Improvisation and Inspiration featuring Fred Johnson, Daniel Kelly and visual artist Marc Lavasseur (Oct. 26-28, 2012), the ever-evolving,

scrupulously researched and passionately performed old-time, fiddle and banjo-based music of? Carolina Chocolate Drops (Feb. 15, 2013) and the Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour (April 13, 2013), featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater, Christian McBride, Ambrose Akinmusire, Chris Potter, Benny Green and Lewis Nash.

The Straz Center will also present Matisyahu?, the Hasidic Jewish musician who crosses genres and cultures with his reggae songs about his religious devotion, at the Tampa Theatre on Feb. 23, 2013.

THEATER & COMEDY

Funny and insightful performers and shows populate the Straz Center stages in 2012-2013 including returns of the incomparable Jerry Seinfeld? (March 30, 2013) and comedians Paula Poundstone? (Oct. 6, 2012), Mike Epps? (Nov. 3, 2012), Cheech and Chong? (Nov. 10, 2012), Brian Regan? (Feb. 15, 2013) and Lewis Black? (April 18, 2013). The Royal Comedy Tour (March 24, 2013) returns to the Straz Center with a diverse lineup of comedians. There will also be the Pumps and Punchlines tour (April 26, 2013) and the previously announced Louis C.K.? (Nov. 29, 2012). The Straz Center also will present ventriloquist ?Jeff Dunham? (Feb. 22, 2013) at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Dixie?s Tupperware Party will keep audiences in stitches in the Jaeb Theater (Dec. 4-9, 2012). Join Dixie for a good old-fashioned Tupperware Party filled with outrageous tales, heartfelt accounts, giveaways, audience participation and the most fabulous assortment of Tupperware ever sold on a theater stage. Tickled Pink (Jan. 1-20, 2013) comes to the Jaeb Theater straight from the pages of comedian Rita Rudner?s bestselling book of the same name. And in the previously announced My Girlfriend?s Boyfriend (Jan. 24, 2013), Mike Birbiglia shares a lifetime of romantic blunders and miscues.

Also on the season are the funny and moving one-woman show Questions My Mother Can?t Answer (Feb. 21-March 3, 2013), written and performed by Andrea Caban and the return of the hilarious celebration of women and the change ? Menopause The Musical? (June 19-23, 2013).

DANCE

The 25th Anniversary Season is filled with exciting dance performances including the legendary company Momix? (Jan. 17, 2013) in their show Botanica, the renowned Spanish repertory company Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia (March 13, 2013) and in an exciting mixed repertory program, The Dance Theatre of Harlem (April 21, 2013).

The season also includes the Straz Center?s own Next Generation Ballet in The Nutcracker, The Great Imperial Ballet? (Dec. 22-23, 2012). Choreographed by NGB Artistic Director Peter Stark, this production has ?marvelous? costumes ?with inventive, whimsical touches.? (John Fleming, Tampa Bay Times). From the moment the lights dim, audiences are transported to a magical place filled with marching toy soldiers, a growing Christmas tree, giant mice and crystalline waltzing snowflakes.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC LIVE!

Behind every great National Geographic story, there is a storyteller: the writers, photographers, filmmakers, scientists, explorers and adventurers who bring the world home. The third season of this popular and informative speaker series will include Secret Edens (Jan. 22, 2013) with underwater photographer David Doubilet, Polar Extreme! (March 4, 2013) with polar explorer B?rge Ousland and Birds of Paradise (April 23, 2013) with field biologist and wildlife photojournalist Tim Laman.

LECTURE

From The Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan (June 15, 2013) to the previously announced Anderson Cooper (Sept. 23, 2012), insightful speakers will grace the stages of the Straz Center in 2012-2013.

KID TIME and WEE FOLK

The Kid Time and Wee Folk series will delight younger audiences in 2012-2013. The Wee Folk series (ages 2 ? 4) will feature Animal Safari Stories (Feb. 10, 2013) and Shana Banana?s Bananimagination? (March 24, 2013). Included in the Kid Time series (ages 3 ? 8) are The True Story of the Three Little Pigs (Oct. 6, 2012), The Gruffalo (Jan. 12, 2013), Anver the Eccentric: Exceptions to Gravity (April 7, 2013) and Next Generation Ballet?s Cinderella (May 19, 2013). Build the foundation for a vivid imagination at these two series.

SPECIAL EVENTS

The Board of Trustees of the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts will host the 25th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, presented by the Don and Erika Wallace Family Foundation. This black-tie evening includes live and silent auctions, dinner on Ferguson Hall stage and a special performance by Tony? Award-winning actress, singer and songwriter Idina Menzel, star of Broadway?s Wicked and the original production of Rent. No season would be complete without Taste the Best of Tampa Bay?. The area?s premier food event ? a benefit for the Straz Center?s education and mission-based programming and organized by the Producers volunteer group ? is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, 2013. Celebrate Opera Tampa with other opera lovers at the Opera Tampa Gala on Feb. 9, 2013.

PATEL CONSERVATORY

The Patel Conservatory at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts offers more than 100 classes for youth, teens and adults that meet during the day, after school, in the evenings and on weekends, with on-going enrollment for a more in-depth experience. Plus, more than 80 camps for kids and classes for adults are offered during the summer.?The Conservatory now offers music classes for those as young as two years old, an expanded vocal program, a jazz program, private lessons and more opportunities for students to perform.

?

The Conservatory will present many concerts and performances throughout the season including the Patel Conservatory Youth Theater presentations of Kiss Me, Kate (Nov. 8-10 and 15-17, 2012), Dig It! (Feb. 28-March 2 and March 7-9, 2013), The Music Man, Jr. (April 11-13 and 18-20, 2013) and The Good Doctor (April 11-13 and 18-20, 2013).

There will also be the Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra?s annual Fall (Dec. 10, 2012) and Spring (May 20, 2013) Concerts as well as the Vocal Arts Choirs Concerts in the Fall (Dec. 11, 2012) and Spring (April 30, 2013). Additionally, Patel Conservatory students will present Rock School Blowout on Dec. 1, 2012 and April 6, 2013.

Students from the Patel Conservatory Youth Ballet will be featured in the Next Generation Ballet?s (NGB) The Nutcracker, The Great Imperial Ballet ? (Dec. 22-23, 2012), On the Edge (April 18, 2013) and in NGB?s new production of Cinderella (May 19, 2013).

?

The Patel Conservatory will hold the third annual Spotlight Awards on May 23, 2013. The Spotlight Awards brings dance, theater and music students together with parents and community members to celebrate the year, recognizes outstanding students, pays tribute to graduating seniors, honors community partners and raises essential funds for the Straz Center?s education programs.

?

CONSTITUENTS

As has been the case throughout the Straz Center?s 25-year history, the facility will play host to numerous local performing arts organizations including the Miss Tampa Scholarship Pageant (March 3, 2013) Tampa Bay Symphony (Nov. 18, 2012, Feb. 25, 2013 and May 13, 2013) and Toast of Tampa Show Chorus (Oct. 20, 2012).

?

There will be a full season of exciting performances by The Florida Orchestra including, among many others, such favorites as Tchaikovsky?s Symphony No. 5, Sibelius? Violin Concerto, Mozart?s Requiem and Beethoven?s Symphony No. 7. The orchestra will also be performing orchestral showpieces such as Berlioz? Symphonie Fantastique, Mahler?s Das Lied von der Erde and Schubert?s Symphony No. 9.

BROADWAY

The 2012-2013 Bank of America Best of Broadway Tampa Bay season is filled Tony Award?-winners, hit songs, amazing spectacle and exciting drama. The new season offers the singing and dancing nuns of Sister Act (Dec. 11-16, 2012), Cole Porter?s classic Anything Goes (March 12-17, 2013) and the feel-good romps Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (April 9-14, 2013) and Flashdance (Feb. 19-24, 2013). The Straz Center will host the chilling return of Jekyll & Hyde? (Oct. 23-28) starring American Idol?s Constantine Maroulis and pop songstress Deborah Cox, the poignant and spectacular drama War Horse (April 30-May 5, 2013), the exhilarating and evocative Traces (Jan. 29-Feb. 3, 2013) and the all-singing, all-dancing celebration of the Gershwins in ?S Wonderful (Feb. 7-April 28, 2013).

The Straz Center will also present Green Day?s American Idiot (May 17-19, 2013), Disney Theatrical Productions? and Cameron Mackintosh?s award-winning musical Mary Poppins? (Dec. 26-30, 2012) and, based on the hugely popular movie, Elf ? The Musical (Nov. 20-25, 2012), the ?endearingly goofy? story of a man raised as an elf at the North Pole who goes in search of his human family. Plus, we?ll present the triumphant return of Broadway?s biggest blockbuster, Wicked? (Jan. 9-27, 2013).

The Straz Center offers a night of affordable family fun at Broadway Family Night. While some restrictions apply, a child?s ticket is available at a substantial discount with the purchase of a full-price adult ticket at select performances. Broadway Family Nights are scheduled for Elf ? The Musical, Traces, Mary Poppins, Anything Goes and War Horse. Typically there are also free, pre-performance games and activities for kids.

?

Post-performance talk-backs with company members will be held for all of the Broadway series offerings except Wicked and ?S Wonderful. Talk-backs are held on the Wednesday night of the run of each show.

OPERA

The 2013 Opera Tampa season is sure to elate every opera lover and enthrall any inquisitive newcomer. Composers Puccini and Verdi, among others, will be showcased in a magnificent season of delight, romance and intrigue. The season features Verdi?s A Masked Ball (Feb. 7-10, 2013), Puccini?s La Boh?me? (March 7-10, 2013) and POPera! (Feb. 14-17, 2013) a special concert featuring selections from favorite opera and Broadway?s best musicals sung by international artists ? all under the baton of Maestro Daniel Lipton and presented by the Helen Torres Foundation. It?s grand opera at its grandest.

As part of the 2013 Opera Tampa season, stunning mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins (March 1, 2013), Britain?s all-time best-selling classical artist and America?s sweetheart from Dancing with the Stars, will illuminate Ferguson Hall with her enchanting voice and charismatic personality. The concert, with orchestra, will feature opera, Broadway and pop favorites from her multi-platinum albums. American tenor Nathan Pacheco, a composer and rising star in the classical crossover world, will join Jenkins as guest artist for an evening of unforgettable music!

CLUB JAEB

One Monday night a month for eight consecutive months, Club Jaeb transforms the Straz Center?s Jaeb Theater into a music space featuring folk, Americana, alt-country and other ?hand-picked music that matters.? Beginning its eighth season, the Club Jaeb Series, presented by the Merchants Association of Florida, Inc., includes Darrell Scott (Oct. 8, 2012), Carrie Rodriguez (Nov. 12, 2012), Tyrone Wells (Dec. 10, 2012), Kris Delmhorst (Jan. 21, 2013), Richard Shindell (March 11, 2013), Lori McKenna (May 6, 2013) and, with a special Club Jaeb performance in the Straz Center?s Ferguson Hall, Tift Merritt and Simone Dinnerstein (April 6, 2013). And there will be a return visit from popular Club Jaeb performer Cheryl Wheeler? (Feb. 11, 2013). Audiences can come early for the 6:30 p.m. Monday Music Mingle, with affordable light snacks and drinks and then stay to see Club Jaeb performances.

JOBSITE THEATER PLAY SERIES

With every engaging production, the Straz Center?s resident theater company, Jobsite Theater, solidifies its reputation as a dynamic, cutting-edge theatrical force unlike any other in the Tampa Bay area. As a theater company, Jobsite fearlessly keeps a finger on the pulse of new and challenging work. The 2012-2013 season features Ray Bradbury?s Fahrenheit 451 (Sept. 5-30, 2012), Wendy Graf?s Behind the Gates (May 1-26, 2013), Martin McDonagh?s The Lonesome West (July 10-Aug. 4, 2013) and the classics Hay Fever (Jan. 9-Feb. 3, 2013) by Noel Coward and William Shakespeare?s Much Ado About Nothing (March 13-April 7, 2013). The season also includes the return engagement of the Jobsite and fan favorite Gorey Stories?(Oct. 24-Nov. 18, 2012), a musical entertainment adapted by Stephen Currens, music by David Aldritch, based on the work of Edward Gorey.

Single tickets for most performances in the Straz Center?s 2012-2013 season will go on sale to the public Sept. 12, at the Straz Center Ticket Office and online at www.strazcenter.org.

  • Season tickets for the Broadway series, the Opera Tampa series, the Jobsite Theater play series, the Club Jaeb series, the Kid Time series and National Geographic Live! are now available.   • Single tickets for most Broadway shows will go on sale for a limited time beginning Sept. 12. Patrons will have the opportunity to purchase seats though Sept. 16. Remaining single tickets for Broadway shows will go on sale six to eight weeks before the opening of each individual engagement. Single tickets for Wicked go on sale to the public on Sept. 16.
