auto insurance: Telematics Insurance policy Brings The Way For ...

Car insurance policy organizations across the world have been making use of a new and future technical innovation that is managed by using a little dark colored box. These companies see a potential future with this program and realise the need to join in this developing and impressive specialized niche. Telematics plans are set to brush the world and will mean that insurance policy for younger people becomes more readily available than at present.

This type of policy works by GPS and indicates that satellite can see the actual actions, speed and generating design of a car owner by getting data via a little dark program that is set up within a car. It's a really delicate technical innovation, which indicates that both sensible as well as irregular generating can easily be grabbed and prepared by it. When a vehicle car owner can show that they generate with both care and attention, the reviews allocated by the little dark program can connect to the plan provider to charge a reduced top quality which is related with this type generating performance. Having said that, in case the vehicle car owner pushes alarmingly, smashes hard or on the other hand sides strongly then they may expect an increased top quality at the factor of restoration.

So, what does this suggest for different car owner types? The advancement happens to be a considerable leap forward in the pursuit for more acutely priced rates for younger motorists. Those people who are able to provide proof they are generating carefully are able to receive credit for this by way of paying out much less per season for their vehicle insurance policy. This is absolutely a great thing as it encourages less dangerous generating and is a lighter program of assuring based only on generating abilities. Telematics technical innovation is not going to come cheap however. One particular adhering factor going ahead is going to be deciding upon with whom the expenses associated with setting up the little program should lay.

Should it be the individual, the insurance provider or maybe the maker that will pay for the product to be installed within the motor vehicle? This is without doubt a matter which is holding up faster developments with this solution and at this factor soon enough there happens to be a mixed bag of opinion on this issue. One factor is for sure however, younger people are shouting out to obtain this design of pay-as-you-drive package as these motorists try to get on the street at an early age in an effort to begin to build up their no statements bonus.

Telematics insurance policy policies are specifically what parents the world over have been looking to find to enable them to get their kids on the street cheaply. Its popularity keeps increasing by the month, with year-on-year insurance policy coverage amounts increasing five-fold in the past two years. Surely it is really just question of your energy and effort until this unique format of insurance policy protection benefits genuine popularity within the industry.

Owl Sleep Similar To Human Shut-Eye, New Study Of Owlets Shows

Cute kittens may be an internet staple, but a new study published in the journal Frontiers in Zoology is shifting the spotlight (if only briefly) to owlets. Among other things, the study shows that baby owls sleep a lot like human babies.

The research also reveals a curious link between changing sleep patterns in the baby birds and a gene involved in producing melanin-containing spots on the birds' feathers--a finding that suggests that sleep-related processes in the brain are linked to melanism in adult owls and in other animals.

Melanin is a naturally occurring pigment. Melanism, the development of dark skin or appendages, is considered the opposite of albinism.

For the study, researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Seewiesen, Germany and the University of Lausanne in Switzerland used tiny sensors to monitor brain waves and body movements in 66 baby barn owls of different ages. The sensors stayed in place for up to five days before the researchers removed them.

What did the sensors show? That as baby owls grow up, they spend less and less time in REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Scientists already knew that birds, like humans, experience REM sleep--which in humans is linked to vivid dreams. But it had been unclear whether time spent in REM sleep declines in birds as it does in humans.

With more research, one of the researchers--the institute's Dr. Niels Rattenborg--said in a statement that "this naturally occurring variation in REM sleep during a period of brain development can be used to reveal exactly what REM sleep does for the developing brain in baby owls, as well as humans."

Of course, it takes no research to appreciate just how cute owlets really are.

AP Interview: USPS takes photos of all mail

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Postal Service takes pictures of every piece of mail processed in the United States ? 160 billion last year ? and keeps them on hand for up to a month.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe said the photos of the exterior of mail pieces are used primarily for the sorting process, but they are available for law enforcement, if requested.

The photos have been used "a couple of times" by to trace letters in criminal cases, Donahoe told the AP on Thursday, most recently involving ricin-laced letters sent to President Barack Obama and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"We don't snoop on customers," said Donahoe, adding that there's no big database of the images because they are kept on nearly 200 machines at processing facilities across the country. Each machine retains only the images of the mail it processes.

"It's done by machine, so there's no central area where any of this information would be," he said. "It's extremely expensive to keep pictures of billions of pieces of mail. So there's no need for us to do that."

The images are generally stored for between a week and 30 days and then disposed of, he said. Keeping the images for those periods may be necessary to ensure delivery accuracy, for forwarding mail or making sure that the proper postage was paid, he said.

"Law enforcement has requested a couple of times if there's any way we could figure out where something came from," he said. "And we've done a little bit of that in the ricin attacks."

The automated mail tracking program was created after the deadly anthrax attacks in 2001 so the Postal Service could more easily track hazardous substances and keep people safe, Donahoe said.

"We've got a process in place that pretty much outlines, in any specific facility, the path that mail goes through," he said. "So if anything ever happens, God forbid, we would be able very quickly to track back to see what building it was in, what machines it was on, that type of thing. That's the intent of the whole program."

Processing machines take photographs so software can read the images to create a barcode that is stamped on the mail to show where and when it was processed, and where it will be delivered, Donahoe said.

The Mail Isolation Control and Tracking program was cited by the FBI on June 7 in an affidavit that was part of the investigation into who was behind threatening, ricin-tainted letters sent to Obama and Bloomberg. The program "photographs and captures an image of every piece of mail that is processed," the affidavit by an FBI agent said.

Mail from the same mailbox tends to get clumped together in the same batch, so that can help investigators track where a particular item was mailed from to possibly identify the sender.

"We've used (the Mail Isolation Control and Tracking program) to sort the mail for years," Donahoe said, "and when law enforcement asked us, 'Hey, is there any way you can figure out where this came from?' we were able to use that imaging."

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? Alex Rodriguez played in a simulated game Thursday, probably the last step before the New York Yankees send him on a second minor league injury rehabilitation assignment ? if he's not suspended first.

Because of wet grounds, the Yankees moved Rodriguez's simulated game from their minor league complex across the Dale Mabry highway to Steinbrenner Field, the team's spring training home.

The ballpark was closed to media, who watched from a walkway behind the right-field bullpen. Rodriguez had several at-bats, played third and ran bases during the simulated game. About two dozen media members and five television trucks were on hand ? but no fans.

Coming back from January hip surgery, Rodriguez was .200 (8 for 40) with two homers and eight RBIs in 13 minor league games from July 2-20 for Class A Tampa and Charleston (S.C.), Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The assignment was cut a day short when he complained of quadriceps tightness, and the Yankees said an MRI in New York on July 21 showed a grade 1 strain.

Rodriguez pushed to be activated later that week, retaining a doctor without giving the Yankees the required notification, and the physician claimed he couldn't detect an injury. During a conference call with Yankees officials on July 25 ? Rodriguez insisted one of his lawyers be on the call ? the sides agreed to a schedule for his return.

New York was expected to assign A-Rod to Trenton for Friday night's game against Reading. While he would be in position to return to the major leagues later in the weekend at San Diego or during a series at the Chicago White Sox that starts Monday, it appears Major League Baseball will suspend the three-time MVP in coming days for ties to Biogenesis of America, a closed Florida anti-aging clinic accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs.

Four years ago Rodriguez admitted using PEDs while with Texas from 2001-03, but he repeatedly has denied using them since.

He appeared ready to talk as he was leaving the minor league complex, waving a group of writers to his car in the parking lot and rolling down the window. However, when A-Rod saw a second group with TV cameras approaching, he said "I'll talk to you guys, but no cameras."

Rodriguez closed the window and kept the car stationary for a moment, then left without saying another word to reporters.

The Weapon takes aim straight at Dons coach

Dean Robinson.

Dean Robinson during the interview. Photo: Channel Seven

Former Essendon high-performance boss Dean Robinson has claimed James Hird wanted him to investigate a testosterone cream that was 'undetectable', and has called for the Essendon coach to stand down.

Robinson - who was known as ''The Weapon'' - also revealed that David Zaharakis had been the only player to not partake in the controversial injecting program in 2012.

''Should we have been more protective? Maybe. But the leadership group didn't have an issue with this, only one player out of Essendon didn't want to be involved - David Zaharakis,'' an emotional Robinson said in a paid 45-minute interview on the Seven Network with AFL commentator and former Western Bulldogs skipper Luke Darcy. ''That was fine, that was his personal choice.''

While Hird has declared his innocence throughout the saga, Robinson said the Bombers great had wanted him to explore a contentious cream after Hird chatted with a doctor in New York.

''I had a phone call while he was overseas, telling me about a doctor he met from New York that had this undetectable substance that you could use as a cream for players. He came back and he told me about it again and said we should investigate, we should go and look at it,'' Robinson said.

Darcy said Robinson had told the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority that he believed Hird was referring to a testosterone cream.

''I said, we are not going there, stay away, that's not what we are about, that's not what I am about,'' Robinson said.

He also claimed Hird said his home was raided years ago by federal police over his relationship with convicted drugs trafficker Shane Charter, who had been Hird's trainer. Charter has been linked with Essendon's sacked sports scientist Stephen Dank, who was in charge of the off-site injecting program now being investigated by ASADA and the AFL.

''He told us at 5am his house got raided, they went through cereal boxes, cupboards everywhere looking for things,'' Robinson said.

''This shocked Steve and I. James asked, 'Do you know Shane Charter?' ... Steve said, 'I know him.' There was obviously a relationship [between Charter and Dank].''

Robinson said he had initially trusted Dank but was unable to say what had happened at the club behind closed doors. He said he had ''pulled back'' the program this year, and said what had been occurring was known at the managerial level.

At the club's pre-season camp on the Gold Coast in late 2011, Robinson claims Hird said the Bombers were ''getting supplements'' off Charter. Robinson said he had protested.

Robinson also said he had been close to suicide after he was stood down by Essendon in February. He has since quit the club and will launch legal action.

Robinson also dragged Collingwood into the controversy, declaring Hird was focused on outmuscling the Magpies.

''He specifically noted a side he really wanted to beat, he wanted to go after Collingwood and he wanted to beat Collingwood - it was whatever it took. He knew stuff that Collingwood were doing,'' Robinson said.

''He said to me that he knew they were taking supplements that were allowing them to get an advantage because he knew who was supplying them.''

Magpies president Eddie McGuire has denied his club was involved in a biological program.

Essendon released a statement after the interview aired, saying:

''The Club acknowledges that Dean Robinson appears to be under an extreme amount of pressure as are a number of people who are employed at the Essendon Football Club.

''However, the series of allegations made by Dean Robinson on Channel 7 tonight are totally without foundation. They are coming from a disgruntled, disaffected and discredited ex-employee.

''They are outrageous in nature and the club is seeking appropriate legal advice.''
